Certificate Programs
The Glassell School of Art offers comprehensive certificate programs designed for adults seeking to build foundational skills and deepen their expertise in their chosen fields. Two programs are available: the Certificate of Achievement (COA) Program and the Certificate Program.
Certificate of Achievement Program
In this comprehensive fine arts program, students work toward a Certificate of Achievement in one of the following subjects: drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, or jewelry.
The program provides students with both the necessary foundation-level courses and a broad range of courses at the intermediate or advanced levels in their major field. In addition, there is a wide range of course offerings for elective credits that will enhance the student's major field of study.
Upon the student’s satisfactory completion of 60 specific credits, the student’s work is reviewed and approved by a certificate committee made up of Studio School faculty.

COA Program Requirements
Students earn three hours of credit for each successfully completed (grade C or above) course per semester. All studio and art history courses must be taken for a letter grade and may not be taken Pass/Fail. For Certificate of Achievement students to receive a letter grade in art history courses, they are required to write a term paper on a topic provided by the instructor, due by the last day of the semester.

Certificate Program
In this defined fine arts program, students work toward a Certificate in one of the following subjects: painting, ceramics, or art history. The program provides students with the necessary foundation for continued studies at an intermediate or advanced level in their major field. Upon the student’s satisfactory completion of 24 specific credits, the student’s work is reviewed and approved by a Certificate committee made up of Studio School faculty.
Certificate Requirements
Students earn three hours of credit for each successfully completed (grade C or above) course per semester. Certificate students are required to receive a letter grade. Pass/Fail grades received prior to fall 2008 will still be accepted toward Certificate credits. Workshops are not eligible for credit toward the Certificate. Students with 15 or more credit hours interested in a Certificate should call 713.639.7500 to schedule an appointment with the associate dean.
