Benches by Trees by Youth

Benches by Trees by Youth

Benches by Trees by Youth, a program born from reclaiming a fallen tree in Hermann Park, showcases the fusion of art, sustainability, and community. High school students underwent college-credit training in woodworking to craft three benches, blending traditional craftsmanship with modern techniques. Guided by artist and Glassell School instructor J Hill, students transformed into artisans during the 14-week program as they explored contemporary art and furniture-making. Each bench bears the students’ initials and the inscription “Please sit, but make way for our elders,” fostering a shared communal ethos.
