Celebrating Community: Women’s Empowerment Group Visits the MFAH
May 13, 2020 - Art plays an important role in trauma recovery, and the connection with the MFAH is a positive presence in the lives of our refugee community. What were some highlights of the visit? Refugee women can lack the confidence to visit public institutions alone, especially when they haven’t yet mastered English. We have over 40 refugee women in our group and most need help with transport, so our amazing volunteer team drove the women and their children to the Museum. Everyone was buzzing with excitement.

By building on our existing strengths and fully using the tools of our connected age—just as generations before us harnessed the advances of their times—we can help create the makers and life-long learners that our era demands Our learning lab is equipped with digital-media tools such as 3-D printers and iPads, as well as analog tools such as sewing machines and fabric. Working with mentor artists, teens are limited only by their own imaginations.
