Accessibility The MFAH strives to provide a welcoming and accessible experience for all guests by offering a range of accommodations—learn more here. ’Round Midnight Directed by Bertrand Tavernier(USA/France, 1986, digital) Real-life tenor saxophonist Dexter Gordon stars as alcoholic Dale Turner, who goes to Paris in the late 1950s to play at the Blue Note club and is befriended by a young Frenchman (François Cluzet). ’Round Midnight’s many jazz performances, recorded live, feature Gordon with Herbie Hancock, Freddie Hubbard, Bobby Hutcherson, and others.

The self-taught African American brothers were still kids when they headlined at Harlem’s famed Cotton Club, later conquering Broadway and Hollywood. Through rare archival materials and excerpts from an award-winning documentary he produced, film scholar Bruce Goldstein offers a revealing look at the lives and careers of the Nicholas Brothers.
