Rienzi’s “Extravagant Objects” on View @ Google Arts & Culture
May 27, 2020 - “I did a deep dive into the Rienzi archives, which include remarkable family scrapbooks, and I ran across many photos of her wearing it over the years. It must have been a much-loved set of jewels.” A Deep Dive “I would have to say the 18th-century emerald Parure she is wearing in a photograph from the late 1950s,” Flores said.

Meet the Designer of the “Black Is Beautiful” Mural
Sep 6, 2019 - I was inspired by the tremendous success of the “Naturally” hair and fashion shows. In 1970, I designed the “Black Is Beautiful” poster using Kwame Brathwaite’s photographs of the Grandassa Models to promote these shows. I was a member of the African Jazz Art Society & Studios (AJASS), a cultural organization of artists and photographers founded by Kwame Brathwaite and his brother, Elombe Brath.

Caricaturing a Caricaturist: Thomas Nast Today
Aug 15, 2017 - I sat down with Maria to discuss what she sees in Nast and his work today. But to be honest, I think his features are more difficult to exaggerate than his highly distinctive facial hair! It can be hard to relate to the humor of satirical prints that are more than a century old! I do appreciate his extensive takedown of Boss Tweed, and the way many of the depictions of the corrupt politician were prototypes for trust-busting cartoons of the later Gilded Age—in particular, the figure of the corpulent industrialist

Strike a Pose and Find Inspiration with #InstaTourMFAH
Apr 13, 2017 - Recently I took a deep dive into Instagram to see which photos visitors were posting the most when at the Museum. With the objects that were appearing most on Instagram, my colleagues and I created a new “highlights” tour called #InstaTourMFAH. Armed with these newfound Instagram favorites, my colleagues and I decided to have a little fun and create a new way of exploring the Museum: through #InstaTourMFAH, an Instagram-inspired, self-guided tour.
