  1. Conservation Science

    Images of the Italian painting Portrait of a Boy Holding a Book (images #3–#5 in slideshow) illustrate normal light, UVF, and IR. Taken through a microscope, this image of Bandeiras verdes sobre rosa (Green Flags on Pink) by Alfredo Volpi shows he used a pencil to draw the outlines of the flags before painting them.  Examination Using X-raysX-ray radiography and X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (XRF) are two examples of examination techniques that require specialized instrumentation to interpret data.

At the center of the story is a gown made of antique peau d’ange silk and a veil of antique Brussels rose-point lace. It was made for Isla Carroll Cowan for her marriage to T. R. Reckling III in 1957.

A guest who presents a Texas Lone Star Card and photo ID can receive free admission for up to 6 people on one card. Excludes dated and timed-entry events, such as films and special programs.

  6. Guided Tours: Colleges and Universities

    To check availability and schedule your tour, contact schooltours@mfah.org In order to book a group tour, you need at least 10 students in your group. Colleges and universities are invited to make the MFAH a part of the classroom with self-guided tours. Book your tour now! Reservations for groups are needed at least four weeks in advance.   7. Learning Through Art: Available Workshops

    A. L. Ballard; Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Add an “R,” “A,” and “S” to STEM education by engaging in project-based learning experiences that bridge the Museum’s collections of world art with K–8 TEKS in Science, Technology, Reading/Writing, Engineering, Art, Math, and Including the “R” for literacy, the “A” for art, and the “S” for social studies promotes collaboration across the disciplines for critical thinking amidst real-world learning.
