In a survey, we learned that 96% of MFAH visitors had smartphones during their visit, and 78% of them used these devices to take photos while they were here. What Stops You in Your Tracks? Rather than focusing on art-history information or biographies of artists, our guide examines why these objects are so intriguing to photograph.

Most people view a work of art for only 6 to 10 seconds—which is not surprising given our culture of distraction and constant visual stimuli. Slow Art Day is an opportunity to combat that fast rhythm we’ve come to associate with TV and swiping on our smartphones, allowing ourselves the time to make new discoveries.
