Celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Houston Cinema Arts Festival
Oct 26, 2018 - Opening-night films have often featured musical performances, which I like to add in order to accentuate the liveness of our events. Many, if not most, of my greatest HCAF memories over the past 10 years took place at the MFAH, which has hosted HCAF screenings since our beginning. Over the years, our programming at the MFAH has included major upcoming theatrical releases, many of which went on to gain Academy Award recognition.

The Art of the Short Film
Sep 14, 2015 - Filmgoers receive a ballot and vote for their favorite film and actor; watch for our announcement of the winners here and on social media. Quite often our audiences' taste aligns with the favorites worldwide. Short films have always been part of the Museum's year-round offerings, and our audiences enjoy them very much. Since we have several shorts programs coming up, I've been thinking about short-form filmmaking lately.

Journey through the Egyptian Afterlife with Matthew Barney’s “River of Fundament”
Sep 1, 2016 - His newest film, River of Fundament, deals with mythic ways of understanding our bodily functions. Our bodies are earthly vessels that transform foodstuffs into both our life force and feces. The Egyptians, without the advantage of scientific images, made stories of both our bodies and spirits, separating the organs after death to be guarded by gods on what was understood as an actual journey into other realms.
