  1. Moonlight Movies

    On May 11, entry to the space begins at 8 p.m. The film starts at 9 p.m. A headset is provided to each guest for premium sound quality. Take a seat on the sloping roof of the Glassell School of Art in the Amphitheater on The Brown Foundation, Inc. Plaza. Stroll past the sculptures and settle in with a complimentary bag of popcorn. The series “A Hero’s Journey” features screenings of The Wizard of Oz on April 6, Labyrinth on April 13, and Monty Python and the Holy Grail on April 20 (rescheduled for May 11, then canceled).

  4. Carolyn Pfeiffer: A Cinematic Life

    -- Begin Grid Row --> October 20–22, 2023 Carolyn Pfeiffer, a film-industry veteran, introduces movies from her storied career and signs copies of her memoir, Chasing the Panther: Adventures and Misadventures of a Cinematic Pfeiffer also produced and distributed films in Jamaica and the United States, including a longstanding collaboration with Alan Rudolph. Also available is the book The Ocean Is Closed: Journalistic Adventures and Investigations, a collection of work by her late husband, magazine writer Jon Bradshaw.

  5. Claudia Cardinale: The Indomitable

    Selections include highlights from her early career, as well as her iconic roles in 8 1/2, The Leopard, and Once Upon a Time in the West. This year it’s a celebration of actress Claudia Cardinale (born in Tunisia in 1938), whose beauty and talent have made a strong impression in countless films. -- Begin Grid Row --> October 7–29, 2023 The Museum resumes a popular tradition this fall with an Italian film retrospective organized by our esteemed colleagues at the legendary Cinecittà in Rome.

  7. Thelma Ritter: Hollywood’s Favorite New Yorker

    -- Begin Grid Row --> Thelma Ritter (1902–1969) was a memorable American character actress with a strong New York accent. In her films, she was often cast as the assistant to the star. Laurence Unger; L′Alliance Française de Houston; and ILEX Foundation. Between 1951 and 1963, Ritter won a Tony Award and was nominated for six Academy Awards. Film historian Christina Putnam, a native Houstonian whose biography of Ritter is forthcoming, introduces selected screenings.
