Members Preview | “Vertigo of Color: Matisse, Derain, and the Origins of Fauvism”
February 23 & 24, 2024
MFAH members are invited to enjoy early access to Vertigo of Color: Matisse, Derain, and the Origins of Fauvism before the exhibition opens to the public on February 25.
Henri Matisse and André Derain embarked on a creative partnership in 1905 that changed the course of French painting. The two artists experimented with energetic bursts of color, form, and structure in a bold style called Fauvism (from the French fauve, or “wild beast”). Vertigo of Color features many celebrated works of Fauvism.
