La Civil

All of a sudden, Laura, the teenage daughter of Cielo (Mexican actress Arcelia Ramírez, in a riveting performance), is kidnapped in northern Mexico. Despite several ransoms being paid, Laura is not returned. With no support from the authorities, Cielo takes matters into her own hands, transforming into a vengeful militant. The filmmaker recounts that “this story was confided by a woman whose experiences inspired the script. Out of respect for her and other victims, I hope this film can bring some positive change.”
