This romantic comedy focuses on Juanita, a Dominican living in Spain who begins a relationship with Mariano, a much-older Spanish farmer. On a trip to Santo Domingo to visit Juanita’s family for Christmas, they discover that love can be tricky.

*Rachel Afi Quinn selected Juanita for its resonance with her book Being La Dominicana: Race and Identity in the Visual Culture of Santo Domingo. Signed copies are available for purchase at this event. She is associate professor of comparative cultural studies and women’s, gender, and sexuality studies at the University of Houston.
