History Book Club “In the Shadow of the Empress”
The History Book Club presents free, bimonthly discussions about literature and art, and you’re invited. These talks focus on books about life in Europe and America during the 18th and 19th centuries, inspired by the collections of the two MFAH house museums: Bayou Bend and Rienzi.
Historian Nancy Goldstone recounts a fascinating family saga with In the Shadow of the Empress: The Defiant Lives of Maria Theresa, Mother of Marie Antoinette, and Her Daughters. The biography delves into the worlds of Maria Theresa, ruler of the Habsburg Empire, and three of her 16 children—including famed French queen Marie Antoinette.
