Anne (Anamaria Vartolomei), a bright college student in 1960s France, fears for her future upon discovering she is pregnant, at a time when abortion is illegal. Based on the semi-autobiographical novel by French writer Annie Ernaux, Happening won the Golden Lion, the top prize at the 2021 Venice Film Festival.
