Roberto Benigni´s Holocaust melodrama is a tribute to the endurance of family love. Benigni and his real-life wife, Nicoletta Braschi, star as Guido and Dora Orefice, the loving parents of a precious little boy, Giosué (Giorgio Cantarini). When the family is imprisoned in a Nazi concentration camp, Guido fabricates an elaborate game to convince Giosué that the whole ordeal is a survival test to be won, with prizes forthcoming.
Mrs. Bush will be introduced by her longtime friend Peggy Neuhaus, a member of the MFAH film committee.
Barbara Bush grew up in Rye, New York, where she met and married President George H. W. Bush in 1945. Since leaving the White House in 1993, Mrs. Bush continues to support the Mayo Clinic Foundation, Ronald McDonald Houses, and literacy programs. In 1989, she helped develop the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy whose mission is to support the development of family literacy programs.
