Korean photographer Nikki S. Lee (born 1970) has received international acclaim for her poignant self-portraits, in which she portrays herself in a wide range of guises, such as a Jewish bride, a rapper, a senior citizen, and an exotic dancer. Lee explores issues of identity by transforming herself through the clothes, mannerisms, and other social cues associated with the culture she is investigating. In her first feature-length film, the artist continues her play with identities and social conformity in a pseudo-documentary style that aims to reveal the "real" Nikki S. Lee.
*Admission is free to this screening, presented in conjunction with the MFAH exhibition RED HOT — Asian Art Today from the Chaney Family Collection, opening July 22.
