Titian and the Golden Age of Venetian Painting: Masterpieces from the National Galleries of Scotland May 22–August 14, 2011

Titian and the Golden Age of Venetian Painting presents 25 masterworks of the Venetian Renaissance—12 paintings and 13 drawings—that include two of the greatest paintings of the Italian Renaissance: Titian´s Diana and Actaeon and Diana and Callisto. These two paintings from the collection of the National Galleries of Scotland have never before traveled to the United States. The exhibition also features paintings from the collection by Jacopo Bassano, Lorenzo Lotto, Jacopo Tintoretto, and Veronese.

In addition to the Diana paintings, this exceptional international collaboration includes 10 other masterpieces that illuminate the depth of the National Galleries of Scotland's collection of Venetian Renaissance works. The paintings—among them Titian's famous Venus Rising from the Sea; Lotto's The Virgin and Child with Saints Jerome, Peter, Francis and an Unidentified Female Saint; Tintoretto's Christ Carried to the Tomb; and Jacopo Bassano's Adoration of the Magi—are accompanied by 13 drawings by Titian, Tintoretto, and Veronese and other Venetian Renaissance artists.
